Most people aren't hacked. They're logged into.
A password leaked from one website gets tried on every other site. A scammer who gets into your email can quietly reset your other passwords and watch for bank emails. And a convincing phone call can do more damage than any virus.
The Cyber Security Health Check closes the gaps attackers rely on most: reused passwords, weak or missing multi-factor authentication, out-of-date devices, hidden email rules and unverified payment details. It follows the Australian Signals Directorate's personal cyber security steps, and we do the work with you on your own devices.
Six areas, checked and fixed with you
Every health check works through the same six areas. Each one is made up of specific checks your technician ticks off once it has been reviewed and, where needed, fixed.
01 Accounts and passphrases
We check your email addresses against known data breaches, replace reused passwords with long, unique passphrases and get a password manager working for you, so one leaked password can't unlock everything else.
02 Multi-factor authentication and recovery
A second lock on every account that matters, starting with email, banking, myGov and your Apple, Google or Microsoft account. We use the strongest method available and make sure you can still get back in if you're ever locked out.
03 Email account integrity
A compromised inbox is usually quiet. We look for the hidden rules, forwarding and connected apps attackers use to read your mail and hide bank emails or password resets from you.
04 Phones, tablets and computers
Updates, screen locks, Find My, backups and a look for unknown apps or remote-access tools. If a device no longer gets security updates from its manufacturer, we'll tell you.
05 Banking and scam safety
Most losses now come from convincing calls and messages, not broken technology. We review your banking sign-in, alerts, payees and limits, and walk through the rules that stop a scammer from talking you into moving money.
06 Social media, messaging and identity
Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, myGov and your mobile account, locked down so your personal details and phone number stay yours.
A bank will never ask you to move money to a "safe account". No one will ever need your password, PIN or one-time code. If in doubt, hang up and call the number on the back of your card.
One guided session, on your own devices
- Book a time. Contact your nearest EduCom IT location and we'll let you know what to bring.
- Sit down with a technician. We go through your phone, computer and key accounts together. You stay in control and enter your own passwords.
- Fix as we go. Gaps are closed on the spot, from turning on multi-factor authentication to removing suspicious email rules and unknown apps.
- Leave with a record. Every item is ticked, and anything that couldn't be done on the day is noted with the reason.
More than peace of mind
- A completed health check record. Keep it on file. Your bank or insurer may ask for it.
- A "keep this page" reference sheet. The fraud lines, reporting contacts and self-check links you'd otherwise be searching for under pressure.
- Accounts you can get back into. Recovery details confirmed and backup codes stored safely, so a lost phone isn't a lockout.
- A local team to call. If you get a suspicious call or message about your bank or accounts later, stop and contact us before acting.
Is a health check right for you?
It's especially worthwhile if you:
- Use the same password, or a few variations, across lots of sites.
- Have had an email saying your details were found in a data breach.
- Have received a suspicious call, text or email about your bank, myGov or a delivery.
- Have just bought a new phone or computer and want it set up safely.
- Look after the tech for a parent or relative and want it done properly.
- Simply aren't sure whether your setup is actually safe.

Frequently asked questions
What is a cyber security health check for individuals?
It's a hands-on security clean of your personal accounts, devices and banking, carried out with an EduCom IT technician on your own devices. We work through six areas, close the gaps we find as we go and give you a ticked record of what was checked and fixed.
Is this a report, or do you actually fix things?
We fix things. Each item is checked and, where needed, put right during the session with you there. You leave with your accounts and devices in better shape, not a list of homework.
What should I bring?
Your phone, tablet and laptop, their chargers, and access to your main email account and banking app. If you already use a password manager, bring access to that too. We'll confirm everything when you book.
Do you need my passwords?
No. You stay in control of your accounts and enter your own passwords. We guide you through each setting and change, and you can see everything we're doing.
I think I've already been scammed or hacked. Should I book this?
Yes, but first call your bank's fraud line straight away using the number on the back of your card, and contact IDCARE on 1800 595 160 if your identity documents may have been exposed. Then book a health check and we'll help you secure everything that's left.
Is a health check a guarantee my devices are safe?
No honest provider can promise that. A health check closes the gaps attackers rely on most and greatly reduces your risk. If anything can't be completed on the day, we note the reason on your record so nothing is left unclear.
How often should I have one?
Once a year is a good rhythm, and any time something significant changes, like a new phone, a suspicious call about your bank, or an email saying your details were in a breach.
Do you offer a health check for businesses?
Yes. Businesses can start with a free security review of identity, devices and email, then move onto managed cyber security if it suits. Contact us and we'll point you in the right direction.
